Another option is to go fishing. There are a lot of great fishing holes in Kansas. Depending on where you are in the state, you can catch everything from largemouth bass to rainbow trout. Just be sure that you understand all of the fishing regulations before you head out. Also, you will need to invest a small amount of money in a fishing license. Once you have your license, however, you can go fishing anytime you want for free.
If you prefer, you could spend a weekend rockhounding. As long as you know where to go, you can find a lot of unique fossils in Kansas. As strange as it may sound, this part of the country was once underneath the sea. As a result, there are a lot of sea creatures from previous time periods preserved in the limestone throughout the state. Be sure to research which areas are best for fossil hunting so that you stand a better chance of finding something interesting on your outing.
Another option is to go biking. There are a lot of great biking trails throughout the state. Most of them are relatively flat and smooth, making it perfect terrain for riding a bike. If you want, you could even tour the entire state on your bike, camping out along the way. Of course, you would need to plan your route carefully to make sure that you stayed on roads that were safe for biking and that you knew where you were going to sleep each night. Still, this could be a fun adventure that doesn’t cost you any money.
